1970 Liechtenstein general election
General elections were held in Liechtenstein on 1 February 1970.[1] The Patriotic Union won eight of the 15 seats in the Landtag, the first time it had held a majority since its formation in 1936. However, it continued the coalition government with the Progressive Citizens' Party, which had existed 1938.[2] Voter turnout was 95%,[3] although only male citizens were allowed to vote.[4] Electoral systemThe 15 members of the Landtag were elected by open list proportional representation from two constituencies, Oberland with 9 seats and Unterland with 6 seats. Candidates were eligible to be win seats in the Landtag using a basic mandate system. The elections used a majority clause, where the party with the most votes also received the most seats.[5] Only males aged 20 or above were eligible to vote.[4][6] Candidates
