Perioikoi, adalah anggota kelompok otonom yang bebas tetapi bukan penduduk warga negara Sparta. Terkonsentrasi di pantai dan dataran tinggi Lakonia, nama περίοικοι berasal dari περί / peri, "sekitar," dan οἶκος / oikos, "tiggal, rumah." Mereka adalah orang-orang yang hanya diperbolehkan melakukan perjalanan kota lain, yang mana penduduk Sparta tidak, kecuali diberi izin.
