San Francisco, September xx, 2010
I am delighted to write this letter on behalf of Rahardhika Arista Utama, to outline his significant contribution as a participant in "Bebaskan Pengetahuan 2010" (Free Your Knowledge 2010), a writing competition for Indonesia Wikipedia from April 1 to June 16, 2010.
The "Bebaskan Pengetahuan 2010" (BP2010) is a three month program developed by Wikimedia Indonesia to leverage public participation to improve Indonesian language Wikipedia articles. It is a pilot project to introduce the Wikimedia mission "Free Knowledge" worldwide. The ultimate goal is to provide an open source of information for everyone. The competition targets talented young writers from Universities and partners with mainstream media. By providing information and inspiring discourse, Wikimedia is hoping to promote a stronger demand for improved information and increased community participation from the local to national level.
Rahardhika was introduced to the program by his University's student department, participating for the competition is one of the condition to become eligible for his university's "Talent Scouting". He undergo internal filtering where all interested participants need to write an essay. Later on his participation was confirm by his student department. Each University is permitted to submit no more than nine of their best students as participants to compete on behalf of the University. As one of the chosen nine, Rahardhika competed on behalf of the Faculty of Social and Politics majoring in Sociology at University of Indonesia, Depok. According to the Project Director supervisor Siska Doviana, during his three months competition, Rahardhika has been resourceful, creative, a fast learner and a persistent participant. Some of the positive feedback that he received from the juries in regard to his articles were "short and interesting" and "easy to read".
Rahardhika successfully wrote 31 (thirty-one) high-quality articles within 72 days of competition. The articles, both long and short, covers a diverse range of topics including social science and biology (animals and plants). Rahardhika hard work culminated in the successful completion of the competition; he became one of only seventeen participants in Indonesia (out of an initial 90) who managed to complete the demanding three month competition.
We would like to congratulate Rahardhika for his achievement and his tireless work to improving and creating articles. Wikimedia wishes his success in his future endeavors.
- Sincerely,
