San Francisco, September xx, 2010
I am delighted to write this letter on behalf of Adrianus David Tanzil, to outline his significant contribution as a participant in "Bebaskan Pengetahuan 2010" (Free Your Knowledge 2010), a writing competition, in the Indonesian language, held by Wikimedia Indonesia from April 1 to June 16, 2010.
The "Bebaskan Pengetahuan 2010" (BP2010) is a three-month program developed by Wikimedia Indonesia to leverage public participation in improving Indonesian language Wikipedia articles. It is a pilot project to introduce the Wikimedia mission "Free Knowledge" worldwide. The ultimate goal is to provide an open source of information for everyone. The competition targets talented young writers from universities and partners with mainstream media. By providing information and inspiring discourse, Wikimedia is hoping to promote a stronger demand for improved information and increase community participation from the local to the national level.
Adrianus was introduced to the program by one of his friends. His participation was later confirmed by his lecturer, Erwin Sentausa. Each university is permitted to submit only nine of their best students as participants to compete on behalf of the university. As one of the chosen nine, Adrianus competed on behalf of the Faculty of Biotechnology at Atma Jaya Catholic University, Jakarta. According to the Project Director supervisor Siska Doviana, during the three-month competition, Adrianus was resourceful, creative, a fast learner and a persistent participant. The Jury responded with positive comments, noting that his articles were "interesting" and"informative". In addition, the Jury commended his ability to use comprehensive references to support the information he publishes on Wikipedia.
Adrianus successfully wrote 64 high-quality articles within 72 days of the competition. Both his long and short articles were consistent, covering specific topics in biology from bacteria, to chemical substance, to ecology. Adrianus's hard work culminated in the successful completion of the competition - he became one of only seventeen participants in Indonesia (out of an initial ninety) who managed to complete the demanding three-month competition.
We would like to congratulate Adrianus for his achievement and his tireless work in improving and creating articles. Wikimedia wishes him success in his future endeavors.
- Sincerely,
- Sue Gardner
