Mary Morrissey


Mary Morrissey (kelahiran 1949) adalah seorang penulis Amerika[1][2] dan aktivis antikekerasan internasional.[3] Ia merupakan penulis Building Your Field of Dreams, yang menceritakan perjuangan dan pelajaran Morrissey dari tahap awal kehidupannya.[4][5] Morrissey juga menulis No Less Than Greatness, sebuah buku tentang menyembuhkan hubungan.[6][7] Di tahun 2002, ia mengumpulkan dan mengedit buku New Thought: A Practical Spirituality.[8]

Penulis Amerika, Wayne Dyer, menyebutnya sebagai "salah satu guru paling bijaksana di zaman kita".[9]

Morrissey, yang aktif sejak awal kariernya dalam pekerjaan humanitarian internasional, merupakan salah satu pendiri bersama Asosiasi Pemikiran Baru Global (Association for Global New Thought) pada tahun 1995. Ia juga menjadi presiden pertama asosiasi tersebut.[1][10]

Pada tahun 1997, Morrissey bekerja sama dengan cucu Mahatma Gandhi, Arun Gandhi, dalam mendirikan Musim Tanpa Kekerasan (Season for Nonviolence).[3][11] Mulai Januari 2019, Musim Tanpa Kekerasan dirayakan di seluruh dunia sebagai kesempatan untuk "menyatukan komunitas dan memberdayakan mereka untuk memvisikan serta membantu membuat dunia tanpa kekerasan."[12]

Kritik

John S. Haller, pengarang Shadow Medicine: The Placebo in Conventional and Alternative Therapies, memperingatkan dalam buku ini bahwa metode pengobatan alternatif, seperti yang ditawarkan oleh Mary Morrissey, tidak boleh dianggap sebagai pengganti pengobatan konvensional.[13]
