Penulisan nama Thomas Stamford Raffles dalam aksara Jawa ada beraneka macam, lebih dari 20 macam.^[1]^[2] Ini disebabkan orang-orang mempunyai interpretasi sendiri-sendiri dengan transliterasinya ketika menulis surat kepada Raffles pada tahun 1816.^[1] Hal ini menjadi bahan penelitian oleh para pakar aksara Jawa mengenai bagaimana bakunya transliterasi nama selain nama Jawa (terutama nama Eropa) ke dalam aksara Jawa.
