Carolyn J. Dean adalah Profesor Charles J. Stille bidang Sejarah dan Bahasa Prancis di Universitas Yale.[1] Sebelumnya, ia menjabat sebagai Profesor John Hay bidang Studi Internasional di Universitas Brown, sebelum berpindah ke Yale pada tahun 2013.[1]

Dean menempuh pendidikan sejarah di Universitas California, Berkeley, baik untuk program sarjana maupun pascasarjana.[2] Ia mengawali karier mengajarnya di universitas tersebut dan juga di Universitas Northwestern sebelum bergabung dengan Universitas Brown pada tahun 1991.[2] Dean kemudian pindah ke Universitas Yale pada tahun 2013 dan pada tahun 2016, ia dipromosikan menjadi Profesor Charles J. Stille.[2]

Dean meraih penghargaan Guggenheim Fellowship pada tahun 1997..[3]
