Hey! I found you on the "Guild of Copy Editors" page. I am currently working on the Nobel Prize article and I am going to nominate it for a GA soon, hopefully before the end of this week. However, it could need some more grammar/prose checks to make it better. I was wondering if you could give me a hand? Especially the parts after "History" needs some looking into. I would be very grateful for any help :)
Copyedit is done (hooray for a light afternoon at my job). I always tell people that it's a good idea to get a second set of eyes to look over the article just to make sure I didn't make any stupid errors or typos, if you can find someone to do that (or do it yourself). keɪɑtɪk flʌfi (talk) 20:17, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
Hey thanks a lot! Really nice edits, big improvement. I looked them all through and couldn't spot any problems or typos. As I figured there were a lot of things in the text that could be better phrased, but you fixed it :)
Good day to you
Seeing by some of the great work you have produced, i would like to ask for your assistance on improving the Wiki on my family. If interested, can you send me an email I have more information to submit but i need help in presenting the facts so it satisfies NPOV, if this makes sense.
ramapoughnative1 @ hotmail . com thank you!
I'm not disputing whether something happened or not. I didn't even get that far. I removed the section because your sources were not adequate. One didn't say what you were saying it said; one was a dead link that therefore also didn't support anything, and one was a source that said lawsuits had been settled, which was useless without a discussion of what lawsuits those were, which, recursively, don't belong in the article unless they are reliably sourced. Statements that are not sourced or misleadingly sourced will be removed from the article.
So what you need to do if you want that section in the article is source statements such as "Three former female employees have claimed that they were pressured into showing their breasts to Koko" to an article that EXISTS and actually SAYS THAT. Right now, your sources are more or less useless, which makes the entire section subject to removal, as claiming a gorilla sexually harasses people without providing reliable sources to that fact is unencyclopedic.
First of all, they are not my sources. I didn't write the section or select the sources. Second, instead of saying what I need to do, or what will be done by you; if you can see so clearly what needs to be done, why don't you do it? That is, if what your are interested in is improving the article, what's stopping you from doing it? If you aren't really interested in doing what needs to be done, what are you interested in doing? So I'd like to say the same thing to you: I suggest that you fix that section and any other articles or sections of articles that you might find that have problems. Chrisrus (talk) 03:14, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
By re-adding the section, you took responsibility for its contents - that is, you re-added it because you thought it belonged in the article, yes? Per WP:BURDEN, it is the responsibility of the editor who wants to add or restore challenged contents to an article to provide adequate sourcing. To quote directly from that policy, "The burden of evidence lies with the editor who adds or restores material.".
What's "stopping me from doing it" is that I have no particular feeling about whether a section discussing sexual harassment belongs in the article; I just want to make sure an inadequately- or falsely-sourced section isn't in it, so my concern is with that. Removing the inadequately-sourced section did improve the article. What's keeping you in this disagreement is that you apparently feel that the section should be allowed in the article. If that is the case, I stress again that it is your responsibility to make sure that content you want in the article is sourced. If you are unable or unwilling to adequately source the section you are adding, then being surprised and offended when the section is removed is, well...kind of silly. keɪɑtɪk flʌfi (talk) 15:06, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
Well, if you look into it a little, like maybe click on that link that I gave you above, you will agree that it belongs in the article. You say you are concerned with improving the article, but I don't think you are very concerned with that, actually, or you'd do something to fix the problem instead of destroying the entire section. So while you may be somewhat concerned about that, you obviously don't care too much, or you wouldn't have claimed that you tried to find a source to replace the dead link but it was too hard for you to do, when I just went to Google and found hundreds of such sources in like, I donno, two seconds. Third, fine, if you refuse to lift a finger to fix the problem, then I'll do it myself. Fouth, I'm not at all surprised that you did what you did because lots of people prefer to simply destroy things than to fix them. Fifth, as to being "offended", I have no idea why you said that. I'm just trying to be a good Wikipedian and defend and fix articles. I just wish that you people like you would try to fix problems instead of destroying articles or sections of articles, so maybe that's what you meant when you said "offended". So with that in mind, if you wish, you can monitor what I'm about to do to the section and see if you don't think that it's a better approach than yours. Chrisrus (talk) 16:48, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
Your changes are exactly what was needed. Thank you for fixing the section rather than just slapping it back in unchanged. keɪɑtɪk flʌfi (talk) 17:23, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
Fine. So, what was this "Second source is dead link, cannot locate the story on that website after a search", a lie? Chrisrus (talk) 17:55, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
(←) I'm going to ask that you please moderate your tone and try to calm down. Calling other editors liars is never a constructive way to resolve a dispute, and it borders on a personal attack. As to your question, you will notice that you changed the link. I followed the original link to a CourtTV 404 page, did a search via their search box for the article title and for Koko in general, and was unable to turn up the article you were referring to. If your search-fu is more powerful than mine, good for you.
If you have more concerns about the article, you may bring them here or to the article talk (article talk would be more productive); however, if you are simply resentful of my past actions and wish to continue to snark, please don't do it here on my talk page. keɪɑtɪk flʌfi (talk) 20:23, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
Fine. I apologize. But please; if you find further dead links or some such somewhere, you might want to consider a tag or a note to the talk page or something, or maybe even Google, before resorting to wholesale destruction in an effort to provoke others into fixing it right away. It'd be way less...I donno, provacative, and there might not be someone like me who happened to be there at the moment to notice and save the whole thing from oblivion. Chrisrus (talk) 22:13, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
Article for you
Hi Chaoticfluffy! I ran across Metastatic breast cancer just now, and it struck me as having problems that you seem to solve quite easily. I've only glanced at it, but with an opening like "Metastatic breast cancer is probably the most feared complication of breast cancer...", it definitely needs a good copy editor. If you have time and interest, I'm sure it would be much improved by even a little attention from you. WhatamIdoing (talk) 22:39, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
Hoo, boy. This is going to be interesting. The medicalese is so thick that I'm not even sure of the meaning of some of these sentences, which makes it really hard to make them make sense. What I really need is someone who speaks that language to walk through the article in tandem with me, translating the sentences to English so I can copyedit them. If you know of anyone who'd be willing and able to do that, send them my way; in the meantime, I'll do what I can with the text. keɪɑtɪk flʌfi (talk) 20:01, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and generally enjoy ourselves and kick back. And if the weather is good, we'll have a star party with the telescopes on the roof of Pupin Hall!
Hi, I'd like to invite you to participate in the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. In May, about 30 editors helped remove the {{copyedit}} tag from 1175 articles. The backlog is still over 7500 articles, and extends back to the beginning of 2008! We really need your help to reduce it. Copyediting just a couple articles can qualify you for a barnstar. Serious copyeditors can win prestigious and exclusive rewards. See the event page for more information. And thanks for your consideration. ɳorɑfʈ Talk!14:40, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
Reviewer granted
Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. A list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. –xenotalk14:22, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
His last comment about you was more than two months ago, and I didn't happen to be watching when it happened. The fact that someone may or may not be insulting you does not justify you suggesting they kill themselves. Comments like that are just not on, period, whether you've been provoked or not. If you feel RMN is acting disruptively, you are free to bring him to wikiquette alerts or dispute resolution, but retaliating in kind is going to get you nowhere but deeper into a hole. keɪɑtɪk flʌfi (talk) 19:22, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
Greetings from the Guild of Copy EditorsJuly 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. Thanks to all who participated in the drive! Over 100 editors—including Jimbo Wales—signed up this time (nearly triple the participants of the May drive). This benefited the Guild as well as the articles in need of copy editing. You can see from the comparison graphs that we increased the number of completed copyedits substantially. Unfortunately, we were not able to meet our goal of completely wiping out 2008 from the queue. We also were not able to reduce the backlog to less than 6,000 articles. We suspect people were busy with real life summertime things, at least in the northern hemisphere! We were able to remove the months of January, February, March, April, and May from the backlog, and we almost wiped out the month of June. We reduced the backlog by 1,289 articles (17%), so all in all it was a very successful drive, and we will be holding another event soon. We'll come up with some new ideas to try to keep things fresh and interesting. Keep up the good work, everybody!
Stats
If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you edited in the May 2010 GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive, your word totals are cumulative for barnstars (not the leaderboard). Over the course of the next week or two, we will be handing out the barnstars.
Eight people will receive The Most Excellent Order of the Caretaker's Barnstar (100,000+ words): Chaosdruid, Diannaa, Ericleb01, Lfstevens, Shimeru, S Masters, The Utahraptor, and Torchiest.
Bullock and Slon02 will receive The Order of the Superior Scribe (80,000+).
The Barnstar of Diligence (60,000+) goes to Derild4921, GaryColemanFan, kojozone, and Mlpearc.
The Modern Guild of Copy Editors Barnstar (40,000+) goes to A. Parrot, AirplanePro, Auntieruth55, Bejinhan, David Rush, and mono.
Nobody will receive The Old School League of Copy Editors award (30,000+).
The Tireless Contributor Barnstar (20,000+) goes to Backtable, Cindamuse, dtgriffith, Duff, e. ripley, Laurinavicius, NerdyScienceDude, and TEK.
The Cleanup Barnstar (12,000+) goes to Brickie, Casliber, cymru lass, December21st2012Freak, Nolelover, TheTito, Whoosit, and YellowMonkey.
The Working Man's Barnstar (8,000+) goes to Bsherr, Duchess of Bathwick, HELLKNOWZ, Mabeenot, noraft, Pyfan, and Richard asr.
The Modest Barnstar (4,000+) goes to Adrian J. Hunter, Airplaneman, Annalise, Camerafiend, Cricket02, Fetchcomms, Gosox5555, LeonidasSpartan, Paulmnguyen, Piotrus, SuperHamster, Taelus, and TPW.
Hmmm. I'm not opposed to adding that one back in, but space looks tight in the Origins section. Do you have any opinion about where it could fit or whether it has any more significance than the other two historical-looking ones on the bottom of the page? (Sorry, tried to put them in here but I am absolutely crap at wiki photo markup stuff and they kept coming out giant and/or broken). keɪɑtɪk flʌfi (talk) 19:57, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
Devil Article
There is no need to go any deeper than to say it was inspired by "Ten Little Indians." That's the whole point. Why would you want to spoil the film and ruin it for people who just wanted to know what inspired Devil? It's pointless and rude. Cigammagicwizard (talk) 13:35, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
Look, Cigammagicwizard, I already explained to you on your talk page that we don't censor spoilers, as complete information is very important to an encyclopedia. The connection between the two plots - the reason Devil is an homage to Christie - is the twist, not that a bunch of people are in a place and some die. That describes pretty much every mystery ever; the return of a "dead" character is a distinctive Christie plot. The connection between the two stories has been noted by Shyamalan himself, in reliable sources; ergo, the connection is notable and encyclopedic. If the connection is notable and encyclopedic, then it belongs in the encyclopedia. We are not "spoiler-free-apedia." We are Wikipedia.
Let me emphasize again: your views on spoilers do not conform to our guidelines, and if you keep trying to force your approach through rather than follow the guidelines, you're going to get yourself blocked. keɪɑtɪk flʌfi (talk) 13:54, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
You're correct, that revert was an error on my part. I apologize and I'll go take the warning off your talk page when I finish writing this reply. I would suggest, however, that you may want to ask on the article's talk page whether the article's regular editors (of which I am not one) think the "Ranking" entry in the infobox is the correct place to put ranking of any and all kinds, or whether it's intended to be a place for academic/best-school rankings. keɪɑtɪk flʌfi (talk) 20:29, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
Uh, no, and I rather resent your assuming bad faith of everyone who disagrees with you. Please try to moderate your emotions on this; "they" are not all out to get you, we're all just out to build a reliable encyclopedia. keɪɑtɪk flʌfi (talk) 20:21, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
Respectfully, I didn't ask because you didn't agree with me; people disagree with me all the time. I made it because the IP - which has made a total of three edits, all to Catfish seems to be geographically located less than 35 miles away from you. That they only seem to pop up to help with your edits is somewhat suspicious. I figured I'd ask.
I will not formally act as a checkuser on this matter and reject the SPI request because I have met Chaoticfluffy at a couple of meetups, but for what it is worth, I find the evidence for this accusation insufficient and your rejection of Chaoticfluffy's assurances in this matter regrettable. I urge you to withdraw this request. Newyorkbrad (talk) 23:02, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
Respectfully, as I see two editors working in concert on an article who's loctions put them within 35 miles from one another, it begs the question. If its just one of those blue moon occurrences, then so be it. If it isn't, then its socking, I appreciate you backing up Chaoticfluffy (sine you know him, acting as CU in this matter would be inapprorpiate anyway), but if he/she isn't playing by the rules, then there's a price to pay for that. If I am wrong in my conclusions, I will apologize for that. As it looks like the CU is being turned down for now, I won't pursue the matter, unless something equally hinky comes up again. As it looks like no proof is forthcoming, I'll reserve both my judgment and apology for now. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 23:23, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
Jack, again, I live within 35 miles of ALL OF NEW YORK CITY. The geolocation thing, not as suggestive as you seem to think. Anyway, the RFCU has been closed and I'll thank you to stop insinuating anything about me. As you are wrong in your conclusions, I'll even hold out hope for that apology. In the meantime, can we get back to editing Catfish (film) constructively, without you trying bad faith end-runs? keɪɑtɪk flʌfi (talk) 23:38, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
And you expect me to offer you good faith when you suggest I took you to RfCU because you disagreed with me? Look, if I disagree with you on an article edit, its based out of a disagreement at best or concern of a misunderstanding of our policies. Maybe its been your past experience that disagreements turn into total war in your mind, but it certainly isn't my play. Even if you had backed my edit, having an anon from your general vicinity come to your aid - and that's all they seem to have done in all of their three edits (before the question arose) - is going to have someone call Shenanigans. RfCU isn't a form of reciprocity; I don't work that way, either here or in life. I can disagree with you without wanting to see your ass banned.
You want some good faith, try to exert some yourself, seeing that I was taking steps to protect the encyclopedia, not silence a voice of dissent (of which you were but one voice, anyway). Sorry you are upset at being suspected, but I said that I will let the matter go. Are you planning to keep carrying the woman around on your back, or are you going to leave her at the side of the stream? - Jack Sebastian (talk) 01:49, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
Hi Karen! Thanks again for coming to the fundraiser on Thursday. It was awesome to meet you. Hopefully I'll see you again and don't forget to apply for a Wikimania scholarship to Haifa if you're interested. In the meantime, if you ever need anything (from me personally or from the community dept. at the Foundation), please don't hesitate to get in touch. All the best, Steven Walling at work16:31, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
Aww, much appreciated, Steven! I had thought I might be terrible at meeting and greeting, but I somehow managed to have a really good time and, I think, not embarrass the WMF too much ;) It was great meeting you and everyone else. Hope to meet again! keɪɑtɪk flʌfi (talk) 19:15, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
I don't know. Jeremyb flashed something about ports on his screen, but i don't know what that means or how to use it. We need to get him over here to help us. keɪɑtɪk flʌfi (talk) 18:53, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
Nice to meet you ChaoticFluffy
it was so awesome to meet you too! either i or someone else in the office will be trying to get those on commons and flickr soon, stay tuned. if you send me your email address, i can send you a note when they're up. i will also try and include a photo of the note you wrote me on my desk ;) --Parul Vora (talk) 20:53, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
Tyrannical Oppressor
Its NO surprise that you have no information explaining the information I have provided and you have deliberately side stepped my efforts of good information based on facts of the Supreme Court of these united States of America. Thank you for providing the proof I needed to publish in papers and promote on my T.V. show. You shall be deemed in all my publishings as a tyrannical organization aiding in the oppression of the Americas. Which is no different than the animals breeding within the Rothschilds, J. P. Morgans, Rockefellers and the like. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Citizen of New York (talk • contribs) 11:17, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Wikipedia, a tyrannical organization? How depressing. Brightened somewhat by the fact that the above user is now indef'd. :) I reported him for attacking users, but he's also nearly-implying legal threats, so either way, he gawn. ←Baseball BugsWhat's up, Doc?carrots→ 14:41, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
I must have forgotten to change out of my top-secret tyranny pajamas, with TYRANT printed across the back, this morning. Man, that's the third secret society I've inadvertently exposed this week. And we would have gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for you meddling kids irate citzens with points to make! keɪɑtɪk flʌfi (talk) 14:50, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Some awesome copyedit on Gadsby! Thank you so much for the help. I am getting a better idea of how this article should look. Padillah (talk) 18:38, 25 October 2010 (UTC)
My edit was not spam or advertising or whatever. The section is about cross breeding of Shih Tzu, so I added that they have been cross bred with Bulldogs, with the link used as the source to verify that. FYI I am not the "seller" of those dogs shown in the linked page, if that's what you are implying. --96.32.181.73 (talk) 05:08, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
I'm sorry if I mistook you. I tend to assume that people adding links to things for sale are the people selling. Still, even though you are not the seller, the fact remains that sites that are selling things are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia - not as "see more" external links and definitely not as sources for facts. You can read our reliable sourcing guidelines if you want to read up on what sorts of publications would be considered valid as sources here. keɪɑtɪk flʌfi (talk) 14:51, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
With respect, I did not present you as a sock. Read the post again, Fluffy - I was seeking input on how to pursue RfCU in the future, as I had apparently handled the one regarding you so poorly that your claim that you weren't the IP in question was even challenged. More to the point, I did not name you when I asked for guidance; unfortunately, you have chosen to identify yourself. I did not call you - and am fairly certain that you are not - a sockmaster. I took special pains to keep your name from the discussion so as to make the question about how I should have pursued the action better, and nothing else. You should feel free to point out where I named you. Frankly, I think you just forgot to log in and were less than candid about that when asked twice. If it is bad faith to file an investigation I suspect socking, then there's a lot of bad faith occurring every time someone files a RfCU.
Moreover, it begs the question: why - after at least a month or two since we've had any contact whatsoever - are you stalking my edits? Shortly after the RfCU was declined, I removed you from my watchlist, and promptly forgot about you (though not the unusual action at CU). Please stop stalking my edits. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 20:18, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
Hi Karen, thanks for the warm welcome! As Pharos mentioned, I'll be heading to the museum tomorrow. Is there anything I should look out for or focus on? I could definitely continue the expansion of the collections section that you've been working on.
Daedalus042 (talk) 05:48, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
Oops, sorry, I missed this until just now. A bit late for telling you what to look out for, although even if I had seen it in time I would have been no good to you on that point anyway. I've never been to the museum, so you're now a step ahead of me in that respect!
Anyway, feel free to jump right into editing whatever bits of the article if you want. Off the top of my head for things you could work on, you could continue adding blurbs for each of the collections, which is what I've been focusing on, or you could edit the blurbs I've already done (I get to a point just before I hit "submit" where what I've written doesn't even look like English to me anymore, so any copy- or style editing is always welcome!), or you could start up the section Shelley mentioned in her email this morning, about the new media collaborations. Those aren't all you could do, by any means, but they're useful starting points if you need one. Pharos told me you're new to WP, but I'm not sure if you're so new that you might need some guidance on the how of editing or if you're ready to just get going right off. If you need some help with the how, you can ask here or on the Museum's talk page (I have both, as well as your user talk page, on my watchlist so I'll see anything you add to any of those). keɪɑtɪk flʌfi (talk) 21:14, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
Here's your IPA on-wiki: gɜʳtʃ . It could probably be prettied up a bit if I could figure out how to ligate the t and the esh, but people will understand this version. keɪɑtɪk flʌfi (talk) 19:30, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
Discussions are underway to elect our inaugural group of GOCE Coordinators. Guild members and Drive participants are invited to have a look at the Coordinators page and join the discussion on its associated talk page.
Participation report — The November drive has 53 participants at this point. We had 77 participants in the September drive. In July, 95 people signed up for the drive, and in May we had 36. If you are not participating, it is not too late to join!
Progress report — The drive is quite successful so far, as we have already almost reached our target of a 10% reduction in the number of articles in the backlog. We are doing very well at keeping our Requests page clear, as those articles count double for word count for this drive.
Please keep in mind the possibility of removing other tags when you are finished with an article. If the article no longer needs {{cleanup}}, {{wikify}}, or other similar maintenance tags, please remove them, as this will make the tasks of other WikiProjects easier to complete. Thanks very much for participating in the Drive, and see you at the finish line!
My concern was how long the meetup will last. If It ends half an hour after I get there, is not worth the $13 train ticket + $4 subway tickets back home.--Metallurgist (talk) 19:22, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, true. We don't have a set agenda or anything, but I do know that there are at least vague plans to do something after we eat at Ollie's - after the last meetup, we went out for cupcakes, this time we might try to find brownies and/or go to a bar or something. I don't expect us to be breaking up as early as 6 or 7 unless something weird happens. Also, I think on the meetup page there is a link directing you to where you can give user:Pharos your phone number (or vice versa?) and thus get updates about where we are even if we've moved on from Ollie's. keɪɑtɪk flʌfi (talk) 19:27, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
I dont have a cell phone, so that will be problematic. And I will be away starting Friday afternoon anyway. I think Ill just wait until the next one. When will that be? December? January? And also, I dont drink so a bar would be awkward. :P --Metallurgist (talk) 08:30, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
Hello there. I've noticed you are a frequent user of my software tool, STiki. First, I wanted to thank you for your use of my tool. Second, I wanted to inform you that a new version just became available (see this post on STiki's talk page for a brief summary of changes). I encourage you to download it! Further, keep your bug reports and feature requests flowing in. STiki has now reverted over 25,000 instances of vandalism, and I hope together we can help this number continue to grow. Elections are currently underway for our inaugural Guild coordinators. The voting period will run for 14 days: 00:01 UTC, Friday 1 December – 23:59 UTC, Tuesday 14 December. All GOCE members in good standing, as well as past participants of any of the Guild's Backlog elimination drives, are eligible to vote. There are six candidates vying for four positions. The candidate with the highest number of votes will become the Lead Coordinator, therefore, your vote really matters! Cast your vote today.
We have reached the end of our fourth backlog elimination drive. Thanks to all who participated.
Stats
58 people signed up for this drive. Of these, 48 people participated in the drive.
Although we did not eliminate the months we planned to (January, February, and March 2009; and August, September, and October 2010), we did reduce the backlog by 627 articles (11.2%), which was over our goal of 10%.
If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you participated in the September 2010 backlog elimination drive, you may have earned roll-over words (more details can be found here). These roll-over words count as credit towards earning barnstars, except for leaderboard awards. We will be delivering these barnstars within the next couple of weeks.
Hi, Thanks for your note. There is something I need help with that I didn't seem to find on the links you sent me. When I click on Cowdog in the Wikipedia Search Engine it leads me to the Border Collie page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cowdog . Since there are a number of breeds that qualify as cowdogs I am wondering how to fix that link to go to a page of it's own? Thanks, Eynsteinn (talk) 15:19, 3 December 2010 (UTC)
Hmmm. Looks like you've already done the first step and deleted the redirect, so now Cowdog doesn't just forward readers. The information you'll need to set it up as what we call a disambiguation page, linking to the various pages, is here. Basically, you would link to all the breed articles that people might be searching for when they type in "cowdog" from the Cowdog page. So something like:
Cowdog may refer to a variety of herding dog breeds:
Border collie, (insert short description of border collie)
...and so forth. Then slap {{disambig}} on the bottom of the page so it gets categorized as a disambiguation page, and you're pretty much set. There's a lot more detail on WP:D, to help you pretty it up and integrate it into the wiki style, but those are the basics. keɪɑtɪk flʌfi (talk) 16:40, 3 December 2010 (UTC)
A particular highlight for the wiki crowd will be 'Seductive Subversion: Women Pop Artists, 1958–1968', and the accompanying "WikiPop" project, with specially-created Wikipedia articles on the artists displayed on iPads in the gallery.
This will be a museum touring and partying meetup, so no excuses about being a shy newbie this time. Bring a friend too!
There are currently 0 articles in the backlog. You can help us! Join the September 2010 drive today!
The Guild of Copy-Editors – September 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive
The Wikipedia Guild of Copy-Editors invite you to participate in the September 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive, a month-long effort to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy-editing. The drive will begin on 1 September at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on 30 September at 23:59 (UTC). The goals for this drive are to eliminate 2008 from the queue and to reduce the backlog to fewer than 5,000 articles.
Sign-up has already begun at the September drive page, and will be open throughout the drive. If you have any questions or concerns, please leave a message on the drive's talk page.
Awards and barnstars
A range of barnstars will be awarded to active participants. Some are exclusive to GoCE drives. More information on awards can be found on the main drive page.
Greetings, the Wikipedia Guild of Copy-Editors invites you to participate in the November 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive, a month-long effort to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy-editing. The drive will begin on 1 November at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on 30 November at 23:59 (UTC). The goal for this drive is to reduce the backlog by 10% (approximately 500 articles). We hope to focus our efforts on the oldest three months (January, February, and March 2009) and the newest three months (September, October, and November 2010) of articles in the queue.
Sign-up has already begun at the November drive page, and will be open throughout the drive. If you have any questions or concerns, please leave a message on the drive's talk page.
A range of barnstars will be awarded to active participants, some of which are exclusive to GOCE drives. More information on awards can be found on the main drive page.

On 20 December 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Beefsteak (banquet), which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that diners at beefsteak banquets "keep score" by piling up the bread slices that come with their beef tenderloin? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.
Hello, no i have no bot, it's me. Just want to do it welldone and fast. I'll try not to edit more than just imprescindible. Thank you a lot for your recommendation. Just changing / fixing categories, just categories, i swear!!! --Dhidalgo (talk) 21:05, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

Thanks Philippe, email received. I really want to thank you and your staff (and Risker, and everyone else who helped at 2am on Christmas morning) all again for your amazing response to the whole thing. I really feel cared about! keɪɑtɪk flʌfi (talk) 03:33, 26 December 2010 (UTC)

We have reached the end of the year, and what a year it has been! The Guild of Copy Editors was full of activity, and we achieved numerous important milestones in 2010. Read all about these in the Guild's 2010 Year-End Report.
Highlights
Membership grows to 503 editors
2,589 articles removed through four Backlog elimination drives
So far, 43 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 25 have participated. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now.
Progress report
We have eliminated two months from the backlog – January and February 2009. One of our goals is to eliminate as many months as possible from the 2009 backlog. Please help us reduce the size of this part of the backlog if you haven't already. Another goal is to reduce the entire backlog by 10%, or by 515 articles. Currently, we have eliminated 375 articles from the queue, so if each participant copy edits four more articles, we will reach that goal.
Thank you for participating in the January 2011 drive. We anticipate it will be another big success!
No big deal- it's at the very bottom of the page. We really need more people to have a look; it's basically been three of us (myself, Collieuk, and Mastiffkennel), and some new voices would be great. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 03:08, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
Hi Fluffernuter, I am a graduate MPA Student from Western Carolina University and was wondering if you would mind being my "wiki mentor" for this spring semester? Our class is partaking in the "WikiProject: U.S. Public Policy" and I am interested in creating a wiki page about a riverfront redevelopment plan that is currently underway in Asheville, NC called the "Wilma Dykeman Riverway Plan". Thank You - Josh — Preceding unsigned comment added by WNCJoshP (talk • contribs) 19:16, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
Hi Josh, I'd be happy to be your mentor! Could you please provide the following information for me:
Your course number and title (and a link to its Wikipedia page, if you know it)
Your preferred method of communication (wikipedia talk page, email, google talk, or IRC chat, or any combination of those)
What part of the day you think you'll be doing most of your wiki-work (night owl? editing during daytime classes?)
Here's some information on getting started with Wikipedia, if you have some spare reading time. First lesson: when you write on a talk page, you can have a signature automatically generated at the end of your post by typing ~~~~ at the end.
Your preferred method of communication (wikipedia talk page, email, google talk, or IRC chat, or any combination of those)
- I would be open to pretty much any combination of email, IRC Chat, or the wiki talk page. I am very new to wikipedia but today will explore how to use the talk page and IRC Chat.
What part of the day you think you'll be doing most of your wiki-work (night owl? editing during daytime classes?)
- I will most likely be doing my wiki-work some time during 7-5pm during the week & weekend.
This is the first issue of the Wikipedia Ambassador Program newsletter. Please read it! It has important information about the the current wave of classes, instructions and advice, and other news about the ambassador program.
Hey, you should feel welcome to join this new mailing list, which was the result of the front page New York Times story about the gender gap in editors. It's an open list, but should be a better place to discuss this issue, and it would be awesome if you could participate. Hope you're well, Steven Walling at work03:17, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
Greetings from the January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! We have reached the end of the month and the end of another successful drive; thanks to all who participated.
Statistics
54 people signed up for the year's first Backlog elimination drive. Of these, 40 participated.
One of our goals was to reduce the size of the backlog by at least 10%. We managed to reduce the backlog by 633 articles, or about 12%.
Another goal was to eliminate as many 2009 months as possible from the queue. We eliminated January, February, March, and April—4 out of 12 months is not bad! In addition, we eliminated 37% of all remaining 2009 articles from the queue.
Chaosdruid copy edited Kutch Gurjar Kashtriya for 32,711 words, which is the largest single article completed in one of our drives so far. This article counts as six 5000-K articles, and Chaosdruid wins the "most 5000-K articles" leaderboard category. Way to go! A complete list of individual results is here.
Barnstars
If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you participated in the November 2010 Backlog elimination drive, you may have earned roll-over words (more details can be found here). These roll-over words count as credit towards earning barnstars, except for leaderboard awards. We will be delivering the barnstars within the next couple of weeks.
Thank you for participating in this year's first Backlog elimination drive! We hope to see you in March.
Did you remove my addition? Why not permit it to stay, with a tag if necessary, until something that satisfies you as a "reliable source" is added? It is senseless to remove indubitably accurate information. You deny the opportunity for others to address a WP:V problem if you simply remove the content. Robert K S (talk) 02:28, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
Apologies for the use of the template; the sources seemed to obviously poor to me that I jumped to the conclusion that you were a newbie. Even now, I have a hard time figuring out from where you're arguing that the information is "indubitably accurate" rather than more of a blog-comment-rumor. I've started a discussion on the article's talk so we can hash out the issue of the disputed paragraph. A fluffernutter is a sandwich! (talk) 02:49, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
Have you listened to Watson's voice and Jeff Woodman's voice? It's unmistakably the same voice. And it's not as if someone was out to "forge" his voice to confuse people. I'm still tracking down the radio program that he was on recently where he commented on doing the text-to-speech work for IBM. Until I do, I don't see a problem with keeping this information available. A lot of people are wondering who provided the voice, and a lot more people are going to be wondering when the programs air on television next week. Doubtlessly, these shows are going to be new ratings highs for Jeopardy!--the show has been promoting these matches like crazy. Easily there are going to be viewership numbers in the double-digit millions. Robert K S (talk) 03:45, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
